"FEI" in Chinese refers to the door or the border. Tao Te Ching's Chapter 11 writes: "When doors and windows are cut out, from the interior vacancy arises the utility of a room. Therefore, what has a positive existence serves for profitable adaptation, and what has not that for actual usefulness."
Fei is deeply rooted in the south of China. Taking Fei Architects as vehicle for space practice and Fei Arts Museum as research platform, and devoting itself to the construction of urban community guided by “Artecture” design concept, it endeavors to turn every building into a borderless community.

FEI Architects
By exploring the boundary of architectural space, we intend to construct buildings that fit in both the natural and cultural environments. Fei Arts, The Borderless Community of Zi Ni Twelve Portals, Ersha Island MAN LAP FONG, Xinghai Concert Hall series, and Exception·Fangsuo Commune have all become literary and artistic landmarks of Guangzhou. Guided by the principles of F.E.I. (F-Functionality, E-Elegance, I-Infinity), emphasizing functionality as the basis and art of simplicity as the golden rule, and with the attitude of breaking through the professional boundary to continue learning, we constantly make innovations in the process from blurring spatial boundary to blurring professional boundary.

FEI Arts
Fei Arts is a private art gallery devoted to exploring sociality and publicity through art intervention, and constantly extending the definition of art gallery space and public art.
In 2007, Fei Gallery was founded by FEI in the Zhusigang Community of Dongshankou, Guangzhou, and was renamed as Fei Arts in 2017. Now it has been among the oldest and most influential private non-profit contemporary art institutes in South China. In recent years, the Museum has explored the locality, publicity and sociality of contemporary art through various art projects featuring public participation with a view to bring art into the daily life of ordinary people.

Working Method:ARTECTURE
Artecture strives to integrate architecture with art together, with an aim to achieve a more connected society by strengthening the relationship between people and people, people and place, people and its surrounding environment.
While perfectly achieving functional utility and space aesthetics, ARTECTURE is concerned with the following 3 aspects:
1. The improvement of living environment of cities;
2. The reconstruction of social relations and publicity of cities;
3. The cultivation of innovation and artistic aesthetics of the public.
In this sense, every architectural design has its public artistry, every architectural design process can become a curatorial process involving all the stakeholders and users. Therefore, to us every architecture is a socially-engaged artistic creation.
For FEI Arts, ARTECTURE is a curatorial method to re-understand and redefine the notion of the contemporary art being as a closed exhibition taking place in a white box. ARTECTURE emphasizes not the artwork itself, but the dynamic relationship between the artwork and the surrounding environment, communities, and people, reflecting on how artworks can establish a connection between art and everyday life.
The integration of architecture and art enables us to see that architectural design is not about creating a space confined to the red line, but a participatory process of making a place. This is our understanding of contemporary architecture and art.
