On December 2, The Borderless Wall – Song Dong’s Solo Exhibition opened in Guangzhou Fei Arts Museum. This exhibition is the beginning of Song Dong's latest creation “Borderless” series after the trilogy of “Making the Best Use of Everything”, “Wisdom of the Poor” and “Surplus Value”. Seven works related to this concept can be seen in this exhibition, including Song Dong's 106-meter-long work, the largest scale in the current collection of Fei Arts – The Borderless Wall.
Song Dong shared his views with the media and audience in front of the Borderless Wall about the daily necessities on display.
“Borderless” is a concept put forward by Song Dong. He regards life as art and uses multimedia and installations to reveal the neglected meaning behind everyday objects.

The exit of the garage elevator is transformed into the entrance as well as art space of the museum.
“The Borderless Museum”
2016- / Concept Plan Event
Originally there is no border between life and art. This is an art plan of Song Dong about “borderless solution” in an artistic way using “borderless” concept in life space, and it is a museum without walls. The plan is being implemented on a continuous basis.
“Empty Book”
2017/Installation Behavior/Paper/30 × 113 cm
It only has the appearance and form of a book; Emptiness is the content.
“Trophy”
Installation/316 × 726 × 119cm
Nameless trophies, making something out of nothing and nothing out of something.
“Life Skills”
Image Projection Installation/Video, Projection, Mirror Panel/6′13″

Filming Team: Wave Image (Ou Dequan, Zhong Zhiyang, Lu Yixi, Gu Jin, Zhu Meixin)
The body touches and controls the things in life, connects the nerves of the city and society, and contemplates the dimension of cognition.
In the opening ceremony, Fei Gallery, which had been established for a decade, was officially renamed Fei Arts (Museum). As a local art institution in Guangzhou, Fei has always had the idea of bringing art out of the white box exhibition space. The installation in this solo exhibition provides a platform for this idea to be put into practice, therefore the artist and the museum decide to elaborate the concept of artistic life in the form of installation events in the preview exhibition.
For example, in the work “Exit”, the exit of the garage elevator of Fei Arts is turned into the entrance of the museum, and the acrobat who performs the skill of balancing books on head is a neighbor of Fei in the community, who is invited to show the connection between people and objects in daily life in the art space. The work “Borderless Wall” is used as a platform for convergence, displaying everyday items collected by Song Dong in Beijing and from the Nonglin Street communities in Guangzhou.

“Long Street Events” is an installation event. Fei Arts and Song Dong planned a unique “Long Street Event – Borderless Mixed Hotpot Banquet on Long Street Beds”, using 36 wooden beds and 36 sheets, to put “Borderless Life & Art” into practice. In the evening, about 230 guests were invited to participate in the construction of the concept“Borderless Life & Art” in the name of art by way of eating.

The residents from various communities along Nonglin Street were invited to attend the mixed hotpot banquet on Long Street beds.
Bai Xue, curator of Garage Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art, and Yang Yong, curator of Garage Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art, at the mixed hotpot banquet on Long Street beds.
Eating is not the only way to open “Long Street Events”. What exactly can the Long Street host? There is no fixed way and more than one answer. We hope that these installations will become a platform for communication and a place to present beauty. You can plan a creative fair, organize a video show, host a Pop-Up performance, etc. Life just goes on and art also goes on. We look forward to better ideas from you to be realized on these wooden beds.
